Choosing a Granite Color That Ages Gracefully
How mineral content, finish and climate change the way a monument looks after twenty years.

Granite is chosen for permanence, but not every color weathers the same way. Dense, fine-grained stones hold a polish for generations, while coarser feldspar-rich stones soften in tone as the surface slowly opens.
Start with density, not just color
Absorption rate is the best single predictor of how a stone will age. Everything in the Veylora catalogue tests below 0.2% absorption, but within that range there are real differences between a Jet Black and an Autumn Rose.
- Jet Black & Graphite — highest polish retention; ideal for etching
- Silver & Mist Gray — forgiving of pollen and hard water
- Autumn Rose & Mahogany — warm tones that soften gracefully
Match the finish to the setting
A polished face in full southern sun will show every fingerprint and water spot. Honed or thermal finishes reduce glare and maintenance in bright, open sections.
